Čalgija or Chalgiya (Bulgarian language: Чалгия) is aBulgarian music genre, which also is a subgenre of the oldurban traditionalfolk music (starogradska muzika) ofBulgaria.[1][2][3]
Čalgija is performed by ensembles calledČalgii (Чалгии) with instruments such as adajre (tambourine) andtarabuka (hourglass drum) providing percussion forut (lute),kanun (zither),clarinet andviolin.[4]
Čalgija should not be confused withChalga (a contemporarypop-folk dance music of Bulgaria).[5]
