
Älvsjö (Swedish pronunciation:[ɛlvɧø]ⓘ) is a district of the city ofStockholm Municipality inSweden, located in theboroughÄlvsjö inSöderort. It has the biggest rentable facility in northern Europe calledStockholm International Fairs, and also the hotelScandic Talk Hotel, which both are located east of Älvsjöcommuter train station. In 2017, the total population of the district was 1,530 inhabitants.[1]
The name was writtenElffuesio in 1461. The origin of the first element is unclear – it is possibly derived from anOld Swedish male name *Ælve, but that interpretation is uncertain. The last elementsjö 'lake' refers toBrännkyrkasjön, a former lake east of Älvsjö.[2]
