Vasupujya is the twelfthtirthankara inJainism of theavasarpini (present age). According to Jain beliefs, he became asiddha, a liberated soul which has destroyed all of itskarma. Vasupujya was born to King Vasupujya and Queen Jaya Devi atChampapuri in theIkshvaku dynasty. His birth date was the fourteenth day of the Falgun Krishna month of the Indian calendar. He never married and remained acelibate.[3] He attainedKevala Jnana within one month of Tapsya andMoksha atChampapuri, ofBihar in India on the fourteenth day of the bright half of the month of Ashadh.

Biography

Vasupujya was the 12thtirthankara inJainism of theAvasarpini (present age).[4] According to Jain beliefs, he became asiddha, a liberated soul which has destroyed all of itskarma. Vasupujya was born to King Vasupujya and Queen Jaya Devi atChampapuri in theIkshvaku dynasty. His birth date was the fourteenth day of theFalgun Krishna month of the Indian calendar.[4] He attainedKevala Jnana within one month ofTapsya andMoksha atChampapuri,Bhagalpur in India on the fourteenth day of the bright half of the month ofAshadh.[citation needed] His height is mentioned as 70dhanusha.[5] He is said to have lived for 7,200,000 years.[5]

Vasupujya is said to have been born 54sagara after his predecessor,Shreyansanatha.[5] His successor,Vimalanatha, is said to have been born 30sagara after him.[5]

The second Vasudeva, Dwiprishtaha, was his devotee. He and his brother Baldeva Shrivijay conquered Prativasudeva Tark and brought his oppressive rule to an end. Shrivijay later joined the ascetic order of Lord Vasupujya.[citation needed]

Statue

The talleststatue of Vasupujya, 31 feet in height, was inaugurated at Nathnagar Temple,Champapuri,Bhagalpur, Bihar in 2014. The statue was constructed and donated by Smt Sona Devi Sethi Charitable Trust, based atPhulchand Sethi complex Dimapur.[6][7]
