Vastedda (Sicilian:[vaˈʃt̪ɛɖːa]) is the traditionalSicilianbread used to prepare thepani câ meusa, a sandwich ofvealspleen.[1][2] It often also includescaciocavallo andricotta toppings.Vastedda is most common in the city ofPalermo.[3]

InGratteri, near Palermo, a fried version calledvastedda fritta is also prepared. Thevastedda fritta is recognized by theItalian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry as aprodotto agroalimentare tradizionale (PAT) and is listed on the official list of traditional Italian agricultural and food products.[4]

Sicilian cheese

The termvastedda orvastella inSicilian indicates also different traditional types of cheese such asVastedda della Valle del Belice andVastedda Palermitana, which are listed asprodotti agroalimentari tradizionali by theItalian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry.[4]
