Tyler Strafaci (born July 23, 1998) is an Americanprofessional golfer who attendedGeorgia Tech. In 2020, he won theU.S. Amateur Championship.
Strafaci was born inDavie, Florida. He graduated fromAmerican Heritage School inPlantation, Florida, winning the state championship in 2015. He was the No. 1 ranked amateur in Florida before enrolling at Georgia Tech in 2016.[1]
He reached the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur in 2017, defeating futurePGA Tour winnerMatthew Wolff in the opening round.[2] He made his PGA Tour debut in March 2018 at theValspar Championship. He also qualified for the2018 U.S. Open atShinnecock Hills.[3]
In 2020, Strafaci won theNorth and South Amateur in July.[4] He then won the U.S. Amateur atBandon Dunes in August, defeatingSMU's Ollie Osborne 1 up in the 36-hole final.[5] He joined his Georgia Tech roommate,Andy Ogletree, as well asMatt Kuchar andBobby Jones as Yellow Jackets to win the championship.
Strafaci was a member of the winning AmericanWalker Cup team in2021, then announced he was turning pro.[6]
Strafaci made his professional debut at theAT&T Byron Nelson in May 2021, missing the cut. He made his first cut on thePGA Tour at theMemorial Tournament in June, finishing in a tie for 57th place.[7]
Strafaci is the grandson ofFrank Strafaci, winner of theU.S. Amateur Public Links in 1935 and the North and South Amateur in 1938 and 1939, the same tournament Tyler won 81 years later.[8][9] Frank finished in ninth place at the1937 U.S. Open.
