Municipality

[edit]

The municipality Trifylia was formed at the 2011 local government reform by the merger of the following 6 former municipalities, that became municipal units:[3]

Province

[edit]

The province of Trifylia (Greek:Επαρχία Τριφυλίας) was one of theprovinces of the Messenia Prefecture. Its territory corresponded with that of the current municipality Trifylia and the municipal unitsDorio,Eira andNestoras.[5] The province was founded in 1833, comprising the northern part of the newly formedMessenia Prefecture. It was abolished with the administrative reform of 1836, but re-established in 1848. In 1899, along with the neighbouringOlympia Province (until then part of theElis Prefecture), it formed the short-livedTrifylia Prefecture, which was abolished in 1909. The province of Trifylia was abolished in 2006.[citation needed]
