InGreek mythology,Themisto (/θəˈmɪst/;Ancient Greek:Θεμιστώ,romanizedThemistṓ,lit.'belonging to the law or customs'[1]) was the daughter of theriver godInachus and the mother ofArcas byZeus; she was transformed into a bear byHera.[2]

In other accounts, the usual birth mother of Arcas was calledCallisto, daughter ofLycaon or elseMegisto, daughter ofCeteus,[3] both women were members of theArcadian royal family.
