Hoyle's nine-season minor league career (1940–1942; 1946–1949; 1951–1952) was spent largely in theNew York Yankees' organization.[1] His brief time in the majors occurred during the opening weeks of the 1952 campaign, at a time whenMLB teams were permitted to carry 28 players on their roster until mid-May. Hoyle allowed twohits but noruns in twoinnings pitched in appearances April 18 and 19 atFenway Park. Among the hits he allowed were three-runhome runs toAl Rosen andBirdie Tebbetts—Rosen's blast was his third of the evening.[2]

Hoyle pitched in only seven more pro games inorganized baseball with theTriple-AOttawa A's before retiring. His major league line included nine hits, one base on balls and seven earned runs allowed in 213 innings pitched, with one strikeout. His ERA was 27.00.
