IMHO, I do not think that the merger with Santhome needs to be carried out. This is because both Santhome and St. Thomas Mount areseparate places in Chennai - hence they need not be merged. Let two articles exist. But because they seem to have a shared history, may be we can add a 'See also' reference to each other. The Silent Contributor09:37, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I shall carry out the merger ofSaint Thomas Mount with this article on the 2nd of September, if nobody has any objections. If you do have any objections, post them here or onmy talk page. The Silent Contributor 14:13, 24 August 2006 (UTC) Done!!The Silent Contributor08:10, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm from Chennai (Madras) and these two are very distinct places there. They are around 10kms apart with different other neighbourhoods in-between. In Chennai, there is no confusion between these two areas. I do agree, that "See also" may be appropriate because of the name relationship.07:04, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

The article says that Thomas the Apostle is "mistakenly understood to be attained martyrdom here in Chennai", but doesn't provide references for either the "understanding" or the evidence that it's a mistake.— Precedingunsigned comment added byFrancispotter (talk •contribs)05:10, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Parangi in tamil refers to Portugese missionaries. From the records of a church in Trichy which had been administered for 400 years by Portugese missionaries, I have noted the word for Portugese missionaires used is Parangi saamiyargal . The word might be from Hindi Firangi meaning foreign. ST. Thomas mount also has a 500 year old church built by Portugesese and has many convents, so the name might refer to Portugese and not Sage Birungi.— Precedingunsigned comment added byAquinas87 (talk •contribs) 10:18, 5 October 2012
Parangimalai (பரங்கிமலை) in Tamil language exists and not in English. Whereas St. Thomas Mount in English is so called as பரங்கிமலை (Parangimalai) in Tamil language.
So, 'St. Thomas Mount' as the article title will be more suitable and hence it is to be considered.

I agree, very dubious move - St. Thomas Mount remains the common name in English even with a cursory glance (including the local station)AlbusWulfricDumbledore (talk)00:27, 21 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Parangimalai →St. Thomas Mount – page moved in 2022 to current name under a supposedWP:COMMONNAME without much further reasoning. In local and media use the commonly used name is consistently "St. Thomas Mount", including every local station which was a point alluded to. Even at cursory glance online and the far fewer references to Parangimalai makes this clear. (St Thomas Mount is used on every English language map too)
When Parangimalai *does* appear occasionally in English, it is typically in parentheses or as a translation
Usage on Google Trends is consistently at least10:1 higher over the last 5 years for St Thomas Mount
I have not moved the page unilaterally, given prior edit summaries and the article's move history.AlbusWulfricDumbledore (talk)09:27, 21 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
