Datu Piang's father was Chinese and his mother was Moro. He played a major role in the Moro reaction to the Spanish advance on Mindanao in the late 19th century.

A source of problems from Spanish times to the early years of Americans control were thejuramentados, Moro swordsmen who attacked and killed aggressors.

This article needs cleanup to present events in the order they occured.
