Sandwiching images on section

[edit]

Swatjester, I saw that you first citedMOS:GALLERY, which led me to believe you were referring toMOS:PEOPLEGALLERY, as that seemed most relevant. I now see you've clarified by citingWP:GALLERY instead. However, the layout you're trying to preserve doesn’t align withMOS:SANDWICH, which recommends a gallery format when images cannot be presented clearly next to the text. At this point, there isn't enough space in the section to support the correct placement. Also, a relevant image was removed, which appears unrelated to the concern about WP:GALLERY. Clarification on that would be helpful.Nebula84912 (talk)23:04, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see how that logic is applicable. The section that you're trying to include them in was the end of the Early Life section, instead of the Weapon Designs section (which is much further down the page and has plenty of room). But not only is the placement a concern, the necessity is a concern. Per policya gallery is not a tool to shoehorn images into an article, and a gallery consisting of an indiscriminate collection of images of the article subject should generally either be improved in accordance with the below paragraphs or moved to Wikimedia Commons. This is the article about Kalashnikov. These images are not of Kalashnikov, they're of his rifles -- i.e. they are not the subjects of the article; if space is a concern they belong on individual articles for the specific rifles, or on Commons. We should not be trying to shoehorn it in here. And whilea gallery section may be appropriate in some Wikipedia articles if a collection of images can illustrate aspects of a subject that cannot be easily or adequately described by text or individual images, that is not the case here.SWATJesterShoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 01:26, 29 July 2025 (UTC)SWATJesterShoot Blues, Tell VileRat!01:26, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
