The following information is interesting - and because of the detail should likely go into the notes section - but first, the references are all short citations. Is there more information: title of ad or article, page number, etc.:

Among the goods imported and/or sold through Apthorp on Merchants Row in Boston were "choice madera wines, ... a parcel of Russiaduck and several sorts of European goods";[1] "British duck of all sorts";[2] "choice good sea coal, ... several second hand cables, little the worse for wear, and anchors suitable, with window glass of most sorts, and a parcel of lead and shot";[3] "a good newstill andworm of about 600 gallons";[4] salt;[5] "a parcel of guns, 4-pounders, with carriages and shott, also a parcel ofswivel-guns with shott suitable;"[6] a "well fitted" 50-ton sloop";[7] and "abrigantine about 90 tuns, and three years old, now lying at theLong Wharfe".[8]

Incomplete citation information makes it difficult to determine theWP:Verifiability of the sources. See alsoTemplate:Full citation, which applies to each citation here. Does anyone have 1) more complete citation information - or - 2) even better, a reliable, verifiable source with a good summary of the goods he transported?--CaroleHenson (talk)18:41, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Boston 18th c. newspapers available as a searchable database via NewsBank Inc.

The "still and worm" mentioned above are apparently related. I do not, however, know of a major use of a gear and worm in distillation. Is it possible that "worm" refers instead to what we now commonly call a "condenser".AJim (talk)10:20, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Apthorpe house

[edit]

I believe Harvard University has an historic house, Apthorp House, which is located in the center court of the Adams House residence. I was told it was built by East Apthorp, who is probably the same person as the father of Charles. Something about East and this house might make another article.AJim (talk)10:25, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
