Survival length

How long does bacteria last for? Cultures conservation (darkness, warmth, moisture) in maybe sugar and lemon remedies.Avyanna.Owam (talk)16:21, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This article talk page is solely for discussing improvements to the article. You might have better luck getting an answer at theReference desk. -Donald Albury19:01, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thermomicrobiota. Why is it listed as a Phylum?

[edit]

This is actually a class according to DSMZ and Wikispecies. Is there a good reason it is listed under Phyla?Haplodiploid75 (talk)14:56, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kingdoms?

[edit]

What do people think about the new bacterial kingdoms? Should they be in this article or not?T g7 (talk)21:42, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, if a reliable source is provided.Graham Beards (talk)08:23, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging@T g7, as the editor who added the claims in question, making sure they're aware of and able to rectify the the{{citation needed}} tag added in the lead byUser:Anastrophe if they so choose.Remsense 🌈 22:15, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Remsense. It looks like user T g7 is an infrequent editor, so not sure how soon they might address it. I was most intrigued by the claim that "UnlikeArchaea, bacteria [...] are resistant to diphtheria toxin [...]". That seemed far-fetched - that all bacteria are resistant to diphtheria toxin, particularly considering that the diphtheria bacterium itself is susceptible to its own toxin. I learned that while googling just now on this very subject. However, this is far and away not something I have any expertise in. That said, my understanding is that there should be nothing in the lede that isn't explicitly discussed in the body, so the tag itself may be too charitable; the claims should probably be removed sooner than later, since at least one of them doesn't hold up to scrutiny. cheers.anastrophe,an editor he is.22:37, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to replace it with a span tag so fresh-eyed editors can more immediately know what should be cited.Remsense 🌈 22:38, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I added a citation for the diphtheria toxin information but I did not delete the citation-needed span tag.T g7 (talk)03:44, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Phyla

[edit]

I think this detailed section is not at all helpful in a general encyclopaedia article on bacteria. All those red links provide little to no information, and many of the blue ones are just stubs. This information should go inBacterial phyla and a {{see main}} link left behind. This is a Featured Article, which is at risk ofWP:FAR if the standard continues to decline.Graham Beards (talk)07:26, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Improving top-importance medicine articles: Join the Vital Signs campaign 2026

[edit]

The goal of theWikipedia:WikiProject Medicine/Vital Signs 2026 campaign is to bring all 101 top-importance articles—including this one—up to at leastB-class quality. Many of these articles are widely read but overdue for review, so even small improvements can have a big impact.

If you watch or edit this article, your help would be very welcome. You can:

  1. Add yourself as a participant
  2. Note the state of the article in theProgress table (is the current class still correct?)
  3. Update the article based on recent clinical guidelines and review papers
  4. Help address gaps, improve clarity for a broad audience, or improve image selection

To reach B class, articles should have: suitable referencing, reasonable coverage, a clear structure, good prose, helpful illustrations, and be understandable to a broad audience. Contributions of any size are appreciated.Femke (talk)16:00, 20 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
