TheSun Fast 1/2 Ton, also called theJeanneau 1/2 Ton, is a Frenchsailboat that was designed byTony Castro as anInternational Offshore RuleHalf Ton classracer and first built in 1984.[1][2][3][4]
The Sun Fast 1/2 Ton'sprototype was namedSun Fast and the design was the first boat in the Sun Fast sailboat range.[1][2][5]
The even though only ten boats were built, the design was developed into theArcadia 30 and theSun Way 28.[1][2][6][7][8][9][10][11]
The design was built byJeanneau in France as a limited edition, with ten boats completed between 1984 and 1986, but it is now out of production.[1][2][12][13]
The Sun Fast 1/2 Ton is a racingkeelboat, built predominantly offiberglass, with acarbon fiber orKevlar-reinforced hull and deck factory options. It has afractionalsloop rig. The hull has araked stem, a walk-throughreverse transom, an internally mounted spade-typerudder controlled by atiller and a fixed finkeel. It displaces 7,275 lb (3,300 kg) and carries 2,425 lb (1,100 kg) of lead ballast.[1][2]
The boat has a draft of 5.48 ft (1.67 m) with the standard keel.[1][2]
The design has minimal sleeping accommodation for four people, with four straight settees in the main cabin. Thegalley is located forward on the port side and the boat's centerline. The galley is equipped with a two-burner stove and a sink.[1][2]
The design has ahull speed of 6.65 kn (12.32 km/h).[2]
The boat is supported by an active class club that organizes racing events, theHalf Ton Class.[14][15]
