Suman Haripriya (born 1 June 1979) is an Indian film director, producer and politician who is serving as the Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly representingHajo constituency since 2016 as a member of theBharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Personal life

Haripriya was born on 1 June 1979 inGuwahati to Jiten Chakravarty andBijoya Chakravarty. Her mother, Bijoya Chakravarty is ex-Member of Parliament of the BJP fromGauhati.[1] Haripriya holdsMaster of Arts inSociology fromNew Delhi'sJamia Millia Islamia, Diploma in Film and Television fromNoida's Asian Academy of Film & Television and Jyotish Acharya fromNew Delhi'sBharatiya Vidya Bhavan.[2]

Haripriya is associated withAssamese cinema.[3] She has directed few Assamese movies. Her filmKadamtole Krishna Nache (2005) received theBest Assamese Film in53rd National Film Awards.[4]

Political

As a BJP politician, Haripriya was elected inAssam Legislative Assembly election in 2016 fromHajo.[5]

Public image

Haripriya has suggested thatcow urine andcow dung could be used against thecoronavirus. She stated that, "Cow dung has many benefits. I think it can kill the coronavirus. Cow urine can also be useful."[6] She has also suggested that cancer can be cured with cow dung and cow urine.[7]
