Stanford station is aCaltrain station inPalo Alto, California, near thestadium on theStanford University campus.[2] It is not a regular service stop; instead, it is only in service for Stanfordfootball home games and other large events at the stadium.[3][4] The usual stop for the university is thePalo Alto station, located 0.57 miles (0.92 km) north of this station.[1] The station does not have anyticket vending machines; however, when in use, Caltrain staff will be present with handheldClipper card readers so people can tag on and off the train.[5]

Service to the station has existed since at least 1922 (one year after theStanford Stadium opened).[6] In 1994, an estimated 20% of the visitors to the1994 FIFA World Cup soccer games at Stanford arrived by train.[7]
