Sophie Román Haug (Norwegian:[sʊˈfìːərʊˈmɑːnˈhæʉɡ]; born 4 June 1999) is a Norwegian professionalfootballer who plays as aforward for EnglishWomen's Super League clubLiverpool and theNorway national team.

Club career

After playing for Kløfta Idrettslag, she went toLSK Kvinner in 2015. She was heavily involved in her team winning both the cup and the league in 2018, with 14 league goals. She became LSK's top scorer in 2020 with eight goals. In 2021, she was named to the team of the year in theToppserien byNTB, after nine goals in 15 league games.[1][2]

In January 2022, she signed forRoma, becoming the most expensive sale from LSK Kvinner ever.[3][4]

In September 2023, she signed forLiverpool for an undisclosed fee.[5] She scored her first goal for Liverpool on 12 November 2023 againstTottenham Hotspur, equalizing the game 1-1 in the 66th minute.[6]

On 21 October 2025, Liverpool announced that Román Haug had suffered ananterior-cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, just a week after teammateMarie Höbinger had ruptured hers.[7]

International career

Haug has represented Norway at U15, U16, U17, U19, and U23 level, as well as the senior national team.

On 21 July 2018, she scored a goal in a 1–0 victory overFrance during theUEFA Under-19 European Championship.[8]

Senior

Haug was called up for theNorwegian senior national team for the first time in 2018.[9] In 2022, she was selected for the national team's squad for the2022 UEFA European Championships. Her debut came on 29 June 2022 in a friendly match againstDenmark.[10]

She scored her first three senior national team goals in theWorld Cup qualifier at home againstAlbania, on 6 September 2022, which ended in a 5–0 victory.[11][12]

On 19 June 2023, she was included in the 23-player Norwegian squad for theFIFA Women's World Cup 2023.[13] On 30 July, she scored a hat-trick in a 6–0 victory over thePhilippines in the last World Cup group stage match, which qualified her country to the knockout phase.[14] It was the fourth instance of a Norwegian player scoring a hat-trick at the Women's World Cup and the first since 2007.
