Shane Tronc (born 19 January 1982) is an Australian former professionalrugby league footballer who played for theBrisbane Broncos and theNorth Queensland Cowboys in theNational Rugby League, and theWakefield Trinity Wildcats in theSuper League.

He previously played for theRedcliffe Dolphins, winning the club'sPlayer of the Year award in 2003 before joining the Cowboys. A nephew of Queensland state of Origin forwardScott Tronc,[2] his father James Tronc played for theRedcliffe Dolphins and theSouths Magpies in theBRL Premiership.

Playing career

While attendingWavell State High School in 1999, Tronc was selected to play for theAustralian Schoolboys team.[3]

Tronc played at prop forward in the2005 NRL Grand Final, the Cowboys' first, which they lost to theWests Tigers.

During a game against theBrisbane Broncos in Round 18 of theNRL competition Tronc suffered a knee injury which required reconstructive surgery, which ruled him out for the rest of the2007 NRL season.

He had signed a two-year deal with sideWakefield Trinity Wildcats, in theSuper League and was seven matches into his two-year deal with the Wildcats before asking for a release to return home to Brisbane. Reports at the time linked him with a return to theNRL with the Brisbane Broncos.[4]

Tronc then signed with theBrisbane Broncos until the end of 2010.[5]

In July 2011, Tronc was forced into premature retirement by a debilitating neck injury.[6]
