Seattle Fish Guys is afish market and restaurant inSeattle'sCentral District, in theU.S. state of Washington. Desiree Chinn and Sal Panelo started the business in 2016. Seattle Fish Guys has garnered a positive reception, especially for itspoke, and is considered among the city's bestseafood establishments.

Seattle Fish Guys is a "gleaming, upscale"fish market and restaurant inSeattle'sCentral District, according toThe Seattle Times.[1] The business operates in the "nondescript" Verse Seattle building at the intersection of 23rd and Jackson.[2][3] It has soldbivalves (includingmussels),[4]clam chowder,[5] crab andshrimp cocktails, fish,poke, and smokedlox. Ingredients in bowls includekimchi,macaroni salad,octopus,brown orwhite rice,salmon, seaweed salad, andtuna.[6] The crab rolls (orDungeness crab "subs")[7] have Japanese mayonnaise, Sriracha, andscallions on a toasted bun.[8] The restaurant'saioli hasgarlic.[9]

Seattle Fish Guys also stocks flowers andspice rubs,[10] and has created take-home meal kits for special occasions; one forLunar New Year included steamed black cod with black bean sauce andmochi donuts.[11]

History

Co-owners Desiree Chinn and Sal Panelo opened Seattle Fish Guys in 2016.[3][12][13] The restaurant's grand opening celebration was held on September 4,[14][15] and featured free samples and a musseleating contest.[16]

Reception

The magazineSeattle Metropolitan says of Seattle Fish Guys: "One of the Central District's favorite destinations for a convivial lunch is also an after-work godsend for picking up dinner."[2] Aimee Rizzo ofThe Infatuation said of the poke in 2020, "Between the soy-marinated tuna, spicy salmon, furikake rice, and smoky macaroni salad, this is a bowl that's better than the sum of its parts—even though each part is excellent."[17] She and Kayla Sager-Riley included Seattle Fish Guys in a 2023 overview of the city's best poke[18] and a 2024 overview of the city's best seafood.[19] In 2023, theSouth Seattle Emerald said the shop was among chefJ. Kenji López-Alt's favorite South End eateries.[20]

Megan Hill included Seattle Fish Guys inEater Seattle's 2022 overview of fifteen "great places" to eat in the Central District.[5]Noms Magazine ranked the business eighth in a 2023 list of Seattle's thirteen best seafood restaurants, and recommended the crab sub, the idako (marinated baby octopus), and the poke bowl.[21] Allecia Vermillion included the restaurant inSeattle Metropolitan's 2024 overview of the city's best seafood.[22]
