TheSagudates (Greek:Σαγουδάται,Sagoudatai) were aSouth Slavic tribe that lived in theregion of Macedonia, in the area betweenThessaloniki andVeria.[1]
The Sagudates were first attested in aByzantine document dated 686 as allies of theAvars andbesiegers ofThessalonica in an alliance with two other South Slavic tribes, theRynchines and theDrugubites.[2][3] In the 7th century, the Sagudates, along with other tribes, usedlogboats to plunder the coasts ofThessaly.[4] In the 9th century, the Sagudates started living in mixed villages with theDrugubites and paid taxes to the Byzantine authorities of Thessalonica.[1]
