TheDiocese of Mercedes (Latin:Dioecesis Mercedaniana) is aLatin Church ecclesiastical territory ordiocese of theCatholic church inUruguay.
The diocese was erected in 1960, from parts of both theDiocese of Salto and theDiocese of San José de Mayo. The diocese is a suffragan of theArchdiocese of Montevideo. Its see is at theCathedral of Mercedes.[1][2]
The current bishop is Carlos María Collazzi Irazábal, who was appointed in 1995.[citation needed]
