Juan Enrique 'Quique' Estebaranz López (born 6 October 1965) is a Spanish formerfootballer who played as aforward.

He made 387 appearances during his professional career, where he represented eight clubs. This notably includedLa Liga spells withTenerife andBarcelona.

Estebaranz was aSpanish international in the early 1990s.

Club career

Born inMadrid, Estebaranz started his football career withAtlético Madrid,[1] although he only played for thereserve team.[2][3] In the1988–89 season he made his professional debut and scored 23 goals forRacing de Santander, although theCantabrians were not ultimately promoted fromSegunda División.[4]

Afterwards, Estebaranz signed withCD Tenerife inLa Liga,[5] and he scored ten goals from 33 games in hisfirst year, his career-best in the top division.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13] However, theCanary Islands club finished in 18th position, only avoiding relegation by victory in the playoffs;[14] he also played a part in Tenerife's denying of two league titles toReal Madrid in the last round, for the direct benefit ofFC Barcelona, including in the1992–93 campaign where he scored.[15]

Estebaranz transferred to Barcelona for1993–94,[16] appearing rarely[17][18] as theCatalans won their fourth league title in a row.[19] The side alsoreached the final of theUEFA Champions League, with the player featuring the last 20 minutes of the 4–0 loss againstAC Milan.[20]

Estebaranz signed forSevilla FC after only one season with Barcelona,[21] but appeared very little in his two-year spell inAndalusia.[22] He subsequently became an important top-flight player withCF Extremadura[23]– whohad just been promoted for the first time in its history to the competition – butsuffered relegation,[24] with the player scoring one goal, againstCD Logroñés on 6 April 1997;[25][26] he closed out his career at nearly 35, after spells withCD Ourense in the second division[27] and amateursGimnástica Segoviana CF.[28]

In 2001, Estebaranz returned to his first club Atlético Madrid, being charged with running its youth teams. Four years later he had his first head coaching experience, with another club from theCommunity of Madrid, lowlyCD Leganés, being in charge for six months.[29] The following year he re-joined theColchoneros, after being named director of their football academy.[30]

International career

Estebaranz played on three occasions forSpain, all in 1993. His debut came on 2 June againstLithuania, and his lastcap came on 22 September againstAlbania, both matches for the1994 FIFA World Cupqualification stages (2–0 and 5–1 away wins).[31][32][33]

Estebaranz's second appearance was afriendly withChile on 8 September, as he played the second half of the 2–0 victory inAlicante.[34]
