Cycling, also known asbicycling orbiking, is the activity of ridingbicycles or otherhuman-poweredvehicles withwheels,[a] for transportation,recreation,exercise,sport and other purposes.[b][1]

People who engage in cycling are calledcyclists,[2]bikers, orbicyclists.[3] They may wear everyday clothing suited to their destination or specialized cycling attire, sometimes carrying an additional set of clothes.

Cycling includes not only traditional two-wheeled bicycles but alsounicycles,tricycles,quadricycles, and otherhuman-poweredvehicles (HPVs). Some bicycles are equipped withelectric motors (e-bikes) or other forms ofmotor assistance.

Cycling can be done individually or with others. Passengers may ride in front,[c] sit on aluggage carrier, or use specially designed seats for children or pets. Some bicycles, such astandem bicycles or multi-riderbike, allow multiple riders to pedal together.

Cycling takes place on roads, bikelanes, andoff-road,trails. Riders may share roads with motor vehicles, use designatedcycling infrastructure, or ride on separatedcycle tracks where available.
