Omar Faraj (Arabic:عُمَر فَرَج; born 9 March 2002) is a professionalfootballer who plays as aforward forEgyptian Premier League clubZamalek. Formerly a two-time international forSweden in friendlies, he representsPalestine since 2024.
Faraj was born inStockholm to Palestinian parents, and was anAIK andIF Brommapojkarna youth graduate. He made his first team debut on 14 June 2020, starting and beingsent off in a 1–0Ettan Norra away win overIK Frej.
Faraj scored his first senior goal on 28 June 2020, netting his team's second in a 3–3 home draw againstTeam TG FF.[1] He finished his first senior season with five goals, and renewed his contract until 2023 on 18 March 2021.[2]
Faraj scored a brace in a 4–1 home routing ofIFK Haninge on 2 May 2021,[3] and also netted ahat-trick in a 6–0 thrashing ofTäby FK late in the month.[4]
On 6 August 2021, Faraj moved abroad and signed a five-year contract withLa Liga sideLevante UD, being initially assigned tothe reserves inSegunda División RFEF.[5] He was the B-side's top goalscorer duringthe season with seven goals, as the team was unable to avoid relegation.
Faraj made his first team – andLa Liga – debut on 20 May 2022, coming on as a latesubstitute forAlejandro Cantero in a 4–2 away success overRayo Vallecano, as theGranotes werealready relegated.[6]
On 21 July 2022, Faraj was loaned toDegerfors IF back in his home country, until December.[7]
On 26 October 2022, it was officially announced that Faraj would join his boyhood clubAIK on a permanent deal in January 2023, signing a three-year contract in the process.[8]
In September 2024, Faraj joined Egyptian sideZamalek by signing a contract until June 2027.[9]
On 12 January 2025, Faraj returned toDegerfors IF on loan until 31 July 2025. The club was freshly promoted to the Swedish top tierAllsvenskan.[10] On 30 March 2025, Faraj played againstHalmstads BK, scoring all 5 goals for Degersfors IF in a 0–5 win at theÖrjans Vall stadium.[11][12]
Faraj made his full international debut forSweden on 9 January 2023, replacingHugo Larsson 68 minutes into afriendly 2–0 win againstFinland.[13]
Born to parents of Palestinian descent, Faraj was eligible torepresent Palestine as he was below 23 and had less than 3 caps for Sweden, allowing him to switch national teams. On 2 June 2024, he received his first call up to thePalestine national team for theWorld Cup qualification games againstLebanon andAustralia.[14]
