TheNorwegian Athletics Association (Norwegian:Norges Friidrettsforbund, NFIF) is thenational governing body for the sport ofathletics in Norway, includingtrack and field,road running,cross country running andracewalking. The association is a member of theNorwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports, and a member of theInternational Association of Athletics Federations andEuropean Athletics.
The association was founded on 1 May 1896 asNorsk Idrætsforbund. Until the formation ofNorges Orienteringsforbund in 1945, NFIF also organizedorienteering.[1][2]
