New Market Battlefield State Historical Park is a historicAmerican Civil War battlefield and nationalhistoric district located nearNew Market,Shenandoah County, Virginia. The district encompasses the site of theBattle of New Market, abattle fought on May 15, 1864, duringValley Campaigns of 1864. In the middle of the battlefield stands the Bushong House, used by both sides as a hospital during the battle and now the visitor center for the 300-acre park.[3]
The park is the site of theVirginia Museum of the Civil War operated by theVirginia Military Institute.
It was listed on theNational Register of Historic Places in 1970.[1]
