Nathan Crowley (born 28 February 1966) is an Englishproduction designer and a formerart director, who is best known for his collaborations withChristopher Nolan. He has been nominated seven times for anAcademy Award for Best Production Design forThe Prestige (2006),The Dark Knight (2008),Interstellar (2014),Dunkirk (2017),First Man (2018),Tenet (2020), andWicked (2024), for which he won.

ForThe Prestige, he was nominated with set decoratorJulie Ochipinti, forThe Dark Knight, he was nominated with set decoratorPeter Lando, forInterstellar andDunkirk, he was nominated with set decoratorGary Fettis,[1] forFirst Man andTenet, he was nominated with set decoratorKathy Lucas, and he was nominated with set decoratorLee Sandales forWicked. Crowley was also nominated six times for theBAFTA Award for Best Production Design forBatman Begins (2005),The Dark Knight (2008),Interstellar (2014),Dunkirk (2017),First Man (2018) andWicked (2024) for which he won.[2]

Early life and education

Crowley grew up inIslington, north London.[3][4] His father was an architect, his mother was an artist, and his grandfather was a builder's merchant. Crowley attendedLeighton Park School inReading, Berkshire.[5] After completing a foundation year at theSir John Cass School of Art, he went on to graduate fromBrighton Polytechnic (now the University of Brighton) with aBachelor of Arts (BA) in Three dimensional design.[6] He initially worked odd jobs in architecture.[7]
