TheNaga Viper pepper is ahot chili pepper developed in England. In 2011, it was recorded as the "World's Hottest Chili" by theGuinness World Records with a rating of 1,382,118Scoville heat units (SHU),[1] but was surpassed in SHU by theCarolina Reaper, in 2017, and again by the latest world record holderPepper X in 2023.[2]
The Naga Viper was created in England by chilli farmer Gerald Fowler of the Chilli Pepper Company inCark,Cumbria.[3] It is claimed to be anunstable three-way hybrid produced from theNaga Morich, theBhut jolokia and theTrinidad scorpion, which are some of the world's hottest peppers.[4]
