NGC 5087 is anelliptical galaxy located in theconstellationVirgo. It was discovered on April 8, 1788 by the astronomerWilliam Herschel.[2] It is a member of theNGC 5084 Group of galaxies, which is a member of theVirgo II Groups, a series of galaxies andgalaxy clusters strung out from the southern edge of theVirgo Supercluster.[3]
