Galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices
NGC 4146 is aspiral galaxy located 300 millionlight-years away[2] in theconstellationComa Berenices. It was discovered on April 6, 1785, by astronomerWilliam Herschel.[3] NGC 4146 is afield galaxy and is part of theComa Supercluster.[4][5]
NGC 4146 is atype 2 seyfert galaxy,[6] and is host to asupermassive black hole with an estimated mass of 4.1 × 108M☉.[7]
Onesupernova has been observed in NGC 4146.SN 1963D (type unknown, mag. 15.8) was discovered byLeonida Rosino on January 22, 1963.[8][9]
