NGC 3953 is abarredspiral galaxy located in theconstellationUrsa Major. It was discovered byPierre Méchain on 12 March 1781.[2] The galaxy is known to exhibit an inner ring structure that encircles the bar. NGC 3953 is a member of theM109 Group, a largegroup of galaxies located within the constellation Ursa Major that may contain over 50 galaxies.[3][4][5][6]
Twosupernovae have been identified within NGC 3953:[1] the type Ia supernovaSN 2001dp[7] andSN 2006bp.[8]
