NGC 1403 is alenticular[2] orelliptical galaxy[3] in the constellationEridanus. It was discovered in 1886 byFrancis Preserved Leavenworth.[4] It was thought to be a "very faint, extremely small, nebulous star" byJohn Louis Emil Dreyer, the compiler of theNew General Catalogue.[4]
