Milleropsis is anextinctgenus ofmillerettid reptile from theLate Permian (Changhsingian stage) of South Africa.[1][2][3] The holotype specimen ofMilleropsis (BP-1-720) is a preserved burrow aggregation of at least nine semi-articulated individuals.[4] Recent work using high-resolution CT imaging has demonstrated thatMilleropsis shares a variety of anatomical features with neodiapsid stem reptiles, casting doubt on the validity ofParareptilia, the clade to which millerettids have often been assigned.[5][6]
Research by Jenkins and colleagues (2025) based onsynchrotron data and an expansive phylogenetic dataset recovered the Millerettidae as thesister group to the Neodiapsida, close to the reptilecrown group.Milleropsis was recovered as thesister taxon to the clade formed byMilleretta andMillerosaurus. These results are displayed in thecladogram below, with taxa traditionally regarded as 'parareptiles' highlighted:[6]
