Mikhmoret (Hebrew:מכמורת,lit. 'Fishing net') is amoshav in centralIsrael. Located on the coast of theMediterranean Sea around nine kilometres north ofNetanya, it falls under the jurisdiction ofHefer Valley Regional Council. In 2023 it had a population of 1,294.[1]
The moshav was founded in 1945 bydemobilised soldiers from theBritish Army, and was named Mikhmoret due to the profession of many of the founders being fishers.[citation needed]
The moshav expanded onto lands of the depopulatedPalestinian village of'Arab al-Nufay'at, whose inhabitants were expelled by an order issued by theHaganah from 10 April 1948.[2]
In 2012 Mikhmoret Beach was listed as one of the best beaches in Israel.[3]
TheIsrael Nature and Parks Authority established the Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Moshav Mikhmoret.[4]
