Mauritania has sent Olympians to every celebration of the modernSummer Olympic Games held since1984, and has yet to win anOlympic medal. It has also yet to compete in anyWinter Olympic Games.
TheNational Olympic Committee was formed in 1962 and recognized by theInternational Olympic Committee in 1979. Mauritania's debut female Olympian wasFatou Dieng, who competed in the2000 Summer Olympics.
