Martyn John Woodroffe (born 8 September 1950[1]) is aWelshswimmer.
He won a silver medal at the1968 Olympic Games.[2]
Woodroffe was born inCardiff,Wales.[3] He representedWales at the1966 British Empire and Commonwealth Games inKingston, Jamaica, and1970 British Commonwealth Games inEdinburgh,Scotland, winning one silver and two bronze medals at the latter.[4]
In 1968 he representedGreat Britain at the Olympics inMexico City in five swimming disciplines - 100 m, 200 mbutterfly, 200 m, 400 mindividual medley, and in the 4×100 mmedley relay.[1] He won the silver medal in the 200 m butterfly in a time of 2 minutes 9.0 seconds, behindCarl Robie of theUnited States.
At theASA National British Championships he won the110 yards butterfly title in 1968, 1969 and 1970,[5][6][7] the220 yards butterfly title four times in 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1970 and the 1969200 metres freestyle title.[8] He also won the220 yards medley title in 1968, 1969 and 1970 and the440 yards medley title in 1968, 1969 and 1970.[9][10]
Woodroffe was awarded theBBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year in 1968, and was admitted into theWelsh Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
