Marco Bonamico (18 January 1957 – 4 August 2025) was an Italian professionalbasketball player, announcer, and executive. At a height of 2.01 m (6 ft 7 in) tall, he played at thesmall forward andpower forward positions. During his playing career, his nickname was, "il Marine" ("The Marine").
As a member of theItalian A League clubVirtus Bologna, Bonamico was thetop scorer of theEuroLeague Finals in 1981, with 26 points scored against theIsraeli Premier League clubMaccabi Tel Aviv, in the championship game.
With the senior men'sItalian national team, Bonamico won a silver medal at the1980 Moscow Summer Olympic Games.[1] He also won a gold medal at the1983 FIBA EuroBasket.
Bonamico also represented Italy at the following majorFIBA tournaments: the1977 FIBA EuroBasket, the1978 FIBA World Championship, the1979 FIBA EuroBasket, and the1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games.[2][3]
After he retired from playing proclub basketball, Bonamico worked as atelevision basketballcolor commentator for the Italianpublic broadcasting companyRAI.
From 1996 to 2000, Bonamico was thePresident of GIBA, the Association of Italian Basketball Players. On 19 February 19, 2009, Bonamico was elected the President ofItaly's 2nd-tier level professional club basketball competition, theLegaDue.
Bonamico died inBologna,Italy, on 4 August 2025, at the age of 68.[4]
