Mang Inasal Philippines, Inc., or simplyMang Inasal (Hiligaynon for "Mr. Barbecue"), is abarbecuefast food restaurant chain in the Philippines established on December 12, 2003, inIloilo City. It is one of the most popular fast food chains in the Philippines, known for servingchicken inasal (grilled chicken) and for introducingunli-rice (unlimited rice) to Philippine restaurant culture.[1]

History

Mang Inasal was started byEdgar "Injap" Sia II, who owned his first business at the age of twenty.[2] Sia engaged in the food business at twenty-six years of age, opening the first Mang Inasal branch on December 12, 2003, at the Carpark Building ofRobinsons Place Iloilo indowntown Iloilo City.[2] The restaurant was an instant success, despite stiff competition from other established grilled-food restaurants.

Mang Inasal opened its first branches in theVisayan region, later expanding toMindanao then toMetro Manila. The company started franchising in 2005; by 2008, it had opened 23 restaurants, with ten being franchised.[3] In 2009, Mang Inasal expanded to over a hundred branches, opening its 100th branch inKalibo, Aklan.[2]

In October 2010, 70% of Mang Inasal was acquired byJollibee Foods Corporation (JFC), for₱3 billion ($68.8 million).[4] JFC acquired in April 2016 the remaining 30% previously belonging to Injap Investment, Inc. owned by Sia. The Sia family remains involved in the business with Ferdinand Sia as its COO.[5]

In 2018, Mang Inasal opened its 500th branch inMandurriao, Iloilo City.[6] The first drive-thru branch opened on December 11, 2024, inSanta Maria, Bulacan.[7] On August 31, 2025, Mang Inasal’s first and flagship branch in Robinsons Iloilo, reopened after renovations, introducing fifth-generation store design, a dedicated take-out counter, its first cashless ordering kiosk, and a Mang Inasal Heritage Wall.[8][9]

Mang Inasal specializes in Filipino grilled chicken, particularly its signaturechicken inasal, which is marinated and grilled. The menu includes options for "unli-rice" or unlimited rice, allowing customers to request additional servings. The restaurant chain also offers freeSinigang soup, along with other grilled dishes like pork barbecue and grilledliempo, as well as non-grilled options likesisig,palabok, andlumpia plus condiments likesoy sauce,vinegar and chicken oil. For dessert, they offerhalo-halo andcrema de leche.[10]

Love team "Mathon"—Maris Racal andAnthony Jennings—are appointedendorsers of Mang Inasal Porkbarbecue.[11]

ActorCoco Martin is also a long-time endorser of Mang Inasal.[12]

Awards

Mang Inasal won two Golds, one Silver, and one Bronze awards at the 21st International Business Awards inIstanbul, Turkey.[13]
