TheRussian route M5 (also known as theUral Highway) is a majortrunk road running across a distance of 1879 km fromMoscow to theUral Mountains. It is part of theEuropean route E30 and theTrans-Siberian Highway. The section fromYekaterinburg toChelyabinsk is also part ofAH7, and the section from Chelyabinsk to Moscow is also part ofAH6.

The highway starts at the crossing of theMoscow Ring Road and Volgogradsky Prospekt and runs southeast throughLyubertsy, crossing theOka River atKolomna. The Ural Highway continues across nine regions ofRussia, passing through a dangerous mountain stretch before terminating at Chelyabinsk. The road continues from Chelyabinsk further east toOmsk,Novosibirsk,Irkutsk as the Russianroute R254.
