Luis Enrique Vidal Gimó (30 March 1916 – 27 February 1999) was a Chileanfootballer who played as acentre back.
At the age of 10, Vidal played for Colegio San Agustín. A year later, he joinedUnión Deportiva Española youth system. He was promoted to the first team in 1933 and made his professional debut in 1936. In 1939, he switched toUniversidad Católica, winning the1949 Primera División, despite the fact that he was injured.[1] In both Unión Española and Universidad Católica, he coincided withFernando Riera, whom he nicknamedTata (In Chile, an informal form forGrandfather).[2]
At international level, he played in three matches for theChile national team in 1941,[3] being part of Chile's squad for the1941 South American Championship.[4]
As manager of Universidad Católica, he won the1966 Primera División.[5][6] He also was the coach ofDeportes La Calera,O'Higgins,[7] andEmelec
He was nicknamedHuacho, an informal way how Chileans refer to orphans.[1]
