Lawsonia intracellularis is a species ofbacterium. It is obligatelyintracellular and was isolated from intestines of pigs with proliferative enteropathy disease.[1]
Lawsonia intracellularis is highly pathogenic. The species has been associated with outbreaks of bacterial infection-associatedprotein losing enteropathy in horses.[2][3]
