Konda Vishweshwar Reddy (born 26 February 1960) is an Indian engineer, entrepreneur, and politician. He is the currentMember of Parliament in the18th Lok Sabha fromBharatiya Janata Party Chevella constituency and served as aMember of Parliament in the16th Lok Sabha fromBharat Rashtra Samithi representingChevella,Telangana. He is the grandson ofK. V. Ranga Reddy after whom the districtRanga Reddy was named.

Reddy is the only Parliamentarian from India to be granted a US patent while serving as a Member of Parliament. He is the richest politician from Telangana with declared assets of worth528crore in 2014 and895crore in 2019 and 4560crore in 2024 according to his election affidavit.[1][2] He is married toSangita Reddy, daughter ofApollo Hospitals founderPrathap C. Reddy.[3]

In 2018, Reddy joined theIndian National Congress and resigned in March 2021.[4]

Early life

Vishweshwar Reddy was born on 26 February 1960 inHyderabad,Telangana, India to Jayalatha andKonda Madhava Reddy, Former Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.[5] His paternal grandfather was a Telangana freedom fighter and Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh,Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy.[6]

Reddy completed hisB.E. (Electrical engineering) from theUniversity of Madras. He has a master's degree from theNew Jersey Institute of Technology, US.[5]

Career

As an engineer by profession, Reddy had worked as an adjunct faculty in the New Jersey Institute of Technology, N.J. andEssex County College, Newyork. He is a successful software entrepreneur; he founded Citadel Research & Solutions, a company involved in engineering research and development. He was involved in the creations of several IPRs. As a professional, he worked for General Electric as the CEO and managing director of GE MSIT and as the CEO and managing director Wipro HCITWipro.

Political career

Reddy joined politics in 2013 on invitation fromK. Chandrashekar Rao, President of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Party. Further, he won the Member of Parliament seat from Chevella Lok Sabha constituency in 2014 General Elections by over a margin of 75,000 votes, in 2019 he stood asCongress candidate from Chevella but lost by 14,000 votes.

Reddy resigned fromBharat Rashtra Samithi in November 2018 and joinedIndian National Congress in the presence ofSonia Gandhi andRahul Gandhi. He later resignedCongress party too in March 2021 to join theBharatiya Janata Party[4] and contested 2024 loksabha elections on BJP Ticket fromChevella asBJP candidate and won by a margin of 1,72,897 votes.[8] He was the appointed as Chief Whip in Lok Sabha on 29 July 2024.[9]

He is married toSangita Reddy, managing director,Apollo Hospitals.[11] He has three sons includingAnindith.[12]
