Karakucak orKarakucak Güreşi is one of the twoTurkish folk wrestling styles practised nationwide and sanctioned by the Turkish Wrestling Federation.[1] Like all otherTurkish folk wrestling styles, karakucak competitions are held on grass fields. Competitors wear baggy trousers (şalvar) or special trousers namedpırpıt made ofcanvas or other similarly sturdy fabric.[2][3][4] Oiling the bodies and/or garments is strictly prohibited.[3] Apart from this, Karakucak rules resembleTurkish oil wrestling rules. Among several local styles,Köprülü karakucak practised mainly inÇukurova has rules almost identical withOlympic freestyle wrestling.[4]
