History

[edit]

KDHL first signed on the air in 1948.[7][8]

The station was founded by Palmer Dragsten, Herb Lee, and Jack Hyde, who aimed to make local programming and community service the station's focus from the start.[9] One of the first community programs was a live church service broadcast from Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault, which began in April 1948 and continues today.[10]

In its early years, KDHL launched the career of notable Western music personality Johnny Western, who had a weekly show starting in August 1949 when he was 15 years old.[11]

KDHL celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2018.[12] The station is currently owned by Townsquare Media and operates alongside sister stations KQCL (95.9 FM), KRFO (1390 AM), and KRFO-FM (104.9 FM) in the Faribault-Owatonna market.[13]

KDHL broadcasts with a power of 3,300 watts during the day and 1,000 watts at night.[14] The station is also rebroadcast on an FM translator, K250CD at 97.9 FM in Faribault.
