Jorge Humberto Rodríguez Alvárez (born 20 May 1971) is a Salvadoran professionalfootball manager and formerplayer who was most recently the head coach ofPrimera División clubAlianza.[2]
He was one of the mainstays of theEl Salvador national football team during the second half of the 1990s.[3][4]
NicknamedEl Zarco, Rodríguez started his career withSalvadoran Second Division outfitHuracán and has played professionally forPrimera División de Fútbol de El Salvador sidesIsidro Metapán,FAS,Águila andAlianza as well as forDallas Burn (nowFC Dallas) ofMajor League Soccer.
In his six seasons with the Dallas Burn, Rodríguez appeared in 155 matches, scoring 25 goals.[5]
Rodríguez made his debut forEl Salvador in an April1991 UNCAF Nations Cup qualification againstNicaragua and has earned over a period of 14 years a total of 71 caps, scoring 9 goals. He has represented his country in 24FIFA World Cup qualification matches[6] and played at the1991,1995[7] and2001 UNCAF Nations Cups[8] as well as at the1996,[9]1998[10] and2002 CONCACAF Gold Cups.[11]
His final international game was a November 2004FIFA World Cup qualification match againstPanama.
