It was created by theBritish North America Act 1867 which preserved existing electoral districts inLower Canada . In 1933, Joliette became part of the new electoral district ofJoliette—L'Assomption—Montcalm .
It was created again in 1966 fromBerthier—Maskinongé—delanaudière ,Joliette—L'Assomption—Montcalm andTerrebonne ridings .
This riding lost territory toBerthier—Maskinongé during the2012 electoral redistribution .
Following the2022 Canadian federal electoral redistribution , the riding was largely replaced byJoliette—Manawan . It lost the municipalities ofSaint-Donat andNotre-Dame-de-la-Merci toLaurentides—Labelle ; it lost the municipalities ofEntrelacs andChertsey toLes Pays-d'en-Haut ; and it gained theDomaine-Ouellet area fromRepentigny .
