Jerry Crasnick is an American sportswriter andbaseball executive. He is a baseball writer forESPN.com andBaseball America[1] and a senior advisor to theMajor League Baseball Players Association. Previously, he wrote for the sports websiteESPN.com, theBiddeford Journal Tribune, thePortland Press Herald, andThe Cincinnati Post.
Crasnick is fromMunjoy Hill inPortland, Maine.[2] Crasnick received hisbachelor's degree in Communications fromBoston University.[3]
Crasnick began his career working for theBiddeford Journal Tribune inMaine, as well as thePortland Press Herald. In 1988, Crasnick served as the beat writer forThe Cincinnati Post where he covered theCincinnati Reds. During his time as beat writer, Crasnick coveredPete Rose and hissuspension fromMajor League Baseball. Crasnick also covered the Reds'1990 World Series championship, and five years ofMarge Schott's tenure as owner of the Reds. He has worked forThe Denver Post andBloomberg News, while also writing forThe Sporting News andBaseball America.[3]
In addition to his website and newspaper work, Crasnick is the author of the bookLicense to Deal: A Season on the Run with a Maverick Baseball Agent. The book's main focus is on the story ofMatt Sosnick who left his job as achief executive officer to become a baseball agent.[4]
