Jenkin Whiteside (1772 – September 25, 1822) was anattorney who served as aUnited States Senator fromTennessee.

Biography

Jenkin Whiteside was born inLancaster, Pennsylvania. His father, Thomas Whiteside (1742–1823), was born inCounty Tyrone inUlster and settled in theProvince of Pennsylvania.[1] Jenkin Whiteside studied thelaw in Pennsylvania and was admitted to thebar there. Moving toKnoxville, Tennessee, he commenced practice there, and in 1801 and 1802 served as a Knoxville commissioner.

In 1809, he was elected by theTennessee General Assembly to replaceDaniel Smith, who had resigned from theUnited States Senate, serving until his own resignation on October 8, 1811, when he resumed the practice of law.[2][3]

He was succeeded as senator byGeorge W. Campbell.

Death

He died inNashville in 1821 and was buried inColumbia, Tennessee.
