James Buchan (born 11 June 1954) is a Scottishnovelist and historian.

Biography

Buchan is a son of the lateWilliam Buchan, 3rd Baron Tweedsmuir, and grandson ofJohn Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir, the Scottish novelist and diplomat. He has several brothers and sisters, including the writerPerdita Buchan. Educated atEton andMagdalen College, Oxford, he began his career as aFinancial Times correspondent, writing from the Middle East, Germany, and the United States. In 1986, he married Lady Evelyn Rose Phipps, daughter ofOswald Phipps, 4th Marquess of Normanby. She died in 2018. He has three children and lives inNorfolk, England.[1]

He was elected aFellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2001.[2]
