National netball team
TheJamaica national netball team , commonly known as theSunshine Girls , representNetball Jamaica in internationalnetball tournaments such as theNetball World Cup ,Netball at the Commonwealth Games , theTaini Jamison Trophy and theFast5 Netball World Series . They have also represented Jamaica at theWorld Games . At the2022 Commonwealth Games , Jamaica were silver medallists. They were bronze medallists in2002 ,2014 and2018 . They were also bronze medallists at the1991 ,2003 ,2007 and2023 Netball World Cups . Jamaica also won the2018 Taini Jamison Trophy Series . As of 1 December 2025, Jamaica are ranked number three in theWorld Netball Rankings .
TheJamaica Netball Association was formed in 1959. It subsequently became affiliated to the West Indies Netball Board and were invited to send a team to the West Indies Tournament inMontserrat in August 1959. Jamaica made theirTest debut at this tournament.[ 2]
World Netball Rankings [ edit ] Between 2008 and 2018, Jamaica were regularly ranked number four in theWorld Netball Rankings .[ 1] [ 3] However, in July 2019, they were ranked number two for the first time.[ 4] During the early 2020s they have regularly challengedEngland for the number three position.[ 5] [ 6]
Jamaica have competed at everyWorld Netball Championships and/orNetball World Cup since the inaugural1963 tournament.[ 7] [ 8] They have been bronze medalists on four occasions –1991 ,2003 ,2007 and2023 .Jamaica have also hosted the1971 and2003 World Netball Championships .[ 9] [ 10]

They were bronze medallists in2002 ,2014 and2018 .[ 34] [ 35] At the2022 Commonwealth Games , with a team coached byConnie Francis and captained byJhaniele Fowler , Jamaica finished as silver medallists.[ 36] Jamaica defeatedAustralia 57–55 during the pool stages and topped the pool.[ 37] [ 38] [ 39] In the semi-finals they defeatedNew Zealand 67–51 and, as a result, qualified for their first major final.[ 40] [ 41] However, in the final, they lost 55–51 to Australia.[ 42] [ 43]

Taini Jamison Trophy [ edit ] Since2008 ,Netball New Zealand has hosted theTaini Jamison Trophy series. The series featuresNew Zealand playing against visiting teams. In2010 , Jamaica made their debut in the series and they have been regular participants ever since.[ 62] In2018 , Jamaica won the series. During a full four team tournament, they twice defeated New Zealand, once in the preliminary rounds and again in the final.[ 63] [ 64] [ 65] [ 66] However, Netball New Zealand subsequently refused to allow Jamaica to take the actual trophy home, stating that "for insurance purposes... we can't really have it go offshore".[ 67] [ 68] [ 69] [ 70] In2022 complications with passports and visas saw the Jamaica team's arrival in New Zealand delayed. This resulted in the original test series been cancelled. It also saw Jamaica playing with a severely under strength team.[ 71] [ 72] [ 73] Following an investigation,World Netball would later fineNetball Jamaica GBP £ 5,000 (NZD $ 9,800) for failing to fulfill the original fixtures planned for the series.[ 74]
